My heartfelt impressions of a festival brimming with incredible artists and wonderful surprises.
This is a true celebration where it’s impossible to say what the highlight of the night is, as every moment is an exaltation of swing.
The festival takes place in a comfortable hotel near the Bisenzio River, the heart of the textile industry and birthplace of Italian fashion. If you stay around the hotel in March, you can enjoy a beautiful walk along the river promenade with views of the mountains. Yes, the setting is truly delightful.
But let’s get to the point. We were lucky enough to meet teachers like Sondré and Tania, who gave us unforgettable lessons as we began our journey into boogie woogie. This dance, which originated in the 1940s as a European variation of swing, is often danced to rock music. It is energetic, powerful, and highly dynamic.
The average age of participants is younger than in many other festivals, and the mix and match competition was simply breathtaking. Young talents gave it their all, and the show made our hearts race.
William Pisani, Dimitri, Filipo and Titti, Marco and Eleonora, Blake and Grace, and Issiaka — what a lineup!
Boogie woogie reigns supreme here, though you can also enjoy lindy hop throughout the parties, thanks to two dance floors hosting live bands and DJs each night.
One of the most amazing aspects of this gathering is the closeness of the teachers and professionals who attend. Being able to dance with them is one of the greatest adventures this kind of event can offer.
The host is engaging and very entertaining, something I value deeply, as a good presenter is essential in events like this.
As for the music, I must say I loved all the bands, especially the energy of Boogie Banausen. I absolutely adore them, as they are currently one of my favorite groups on the 1950s music circuit.
The floor is also worth mentioning — it slides perfectly, as you can see in the videos on YouTube.
I hope to return next spring to celebrate yet another unforgettable edition of Swing in Spring.
